I moved to the midwest for college and decided to stick around. I love Chicago - a big city without the attitude. I love all things urban - mass transit, high density, diversity, and opportunity.
I live downtown, and have lived downtown here for most of my stay except for a few stints in parts of the North Side and a few months on the West side.

I post photos sometimes. The camera I use for most of them recently is the Nikon D80, with just two lenses right now (the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens, and a Nikon 50mm f/1.4). I had three others, but I sold them as they were more or less redundant with the 18-200mm. I plan to get a wider, faster prime and something like an 85mm f/1.4 eventually.

About the username "backburner": I chose it because I started this blog (I have one other under my real name, which I don't keep up nearly as well) shortly after I came out to myself and started coming out to friends. I chose backburner because I felt I was finally dealing with emotions, feelings, desires and issues that I had kept simmering on the back burner of life. Originally it was just to track my feelings about the process of finally coming to terms with being gay, but it has morphed into being my primary blog as I've reached acceptance.

About "geeza": I chose that because I thought it sounded cool. It's a British - primarily London - slang term meaning something along the lines of "guy" or "bloke". I picked it up after listening to The Streets 2002 album Original Pirate Material.

About "马先生": It translates directly as "Mister Ma," but the Mandarin pronunciation sounds very close to how my real last name sounds when pronounced with a strong Chinese accent.

About friending me. Just do it - there's really no need to ask permission ahead of time. I will probably friend you back eventually although if you don't tell me it may take me a few weeks to notice the new "friend of" listing. |
